In a challenging global environment, with profound changes in world geopolitics, the Euro-Atlantic security system is subject to growing tensions in the beginning of the 21st century. Europe and the world today are substantially different from the late 1940s, when it was originally conceived.
Turkey, an important member of NATO during the Cold War and a key part of the security system in Southeast Europe, now shows a desire for strategic autonomy. From a “Zero Problems with Neighbors” policy, the current Turkish political regime has evolved into a more intervening vision in its surrounding geopolitical area, with a direct impact on Euro-Atlantic security.
