The National Defence Institute, together with the Atlantic Centre, is organizing the “I Course on Maritime Security in Gulf of Guinea”. This event will take place from the 11th to the 14th of May 2021, at PRT Air Base nº 4, at Lajes, Terceira Island, Azores, where the future facilities of the Atlantic Centre will also be located. The goal of the Atlantic Centre is to create a platform for joint political action, for sharing relevant information about dynamics affecting the broader Atlantic region, and for reinforcing the development and the security of all Atlantic coastal states, namely through capacity-building. Hence the current focus on education and training, namely the first course dedicated to maritime security issues in the Gulf of Guinea. This course is structured so as to provide the appropriate conceptual tools to better grasp the complexity of the challenges that lie within the Gulf of Guinea, as well as the institutional responses that are being developed, and the different lessons learned from cooperative experiences in this area.
