The National Defence Seminar is an initiative of the Portuguese Minister of National Defence in partnership with the National Defence Institute which aims to discuss annually the most timely Defence topics for Portugal and its close allies in the EuroAtlantic area and to contribute to a wider debate about defence policy with international and national experts.
This seminar brings together high-level stakeholders in Portuguese Defence, but also a wider community with an interest in Defence topics.
The third edition, which takes place in the National Defence Institute, in Lisbon, on 29 November, will give particular emphasis to hybrid conflicts and major international transformations, as well as to the strategic documents in preparation in NATO and in the European Union, the impact of emerging and disruptive technologies on Defence, and Space as an increasingly contested domain.
The opening session will feature the intervention of Javier Solana, former High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, between 1999 and 2009. The event will count with a wide range of speakers from relevant think tanks, international organisations, national agencies and the academia.
Public sessions will be livestreamed through the IDN’s Youtube channel.
