With great dismay and sadness, the National Defense Institute communicates the death of Professor Maria Carrilho. A pioneer of Military Sociology studies in Portugal, a distinguished scholar, member of the Portuguese Parliament and the European Parliament, she was an attentive collaborator of IDN for several decades. Here, she coordinated the first series of public opinion studies on Defense and the Armed Forces in Portugal, carried out in the 1990s, gave dozens of conferences and authored several publications in the editorial lines of the Institute. Her latest book, Parceiros Desiguais – A Defesa nas relações Europa-EUA, was released in the Atena collection in 2021. Her legacy will remain with us.
